FAQ

Is Virtual Gastric Banding very expensive?

The initial cost of VGB compares very favourably with the most well-known weight loss, diet and exercise programmes, and its long-term success rate makes it excellent value for money.

I have tried hypnosis for weight loss in the past and had limited success, why should VGB work for me?

This programme specially targets negative eating habits and retrains your mind to accept and enjoy healthy eating patterns. This innovative programme has proved successful for the vast majority of clients.

What does it involve?

Through hypnosis the Virtual Gastric Banding procedure, developed by Sheila Granger, (UK), is a technique that utilises the power of the mind by convincing it that your stomach has shrunk to the size of a golf ball.  The procedure incorporates the power of hypnosis, cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT), NLP, coaching and very powerful visualisations to assist you in the permanent weight release.  This will result in re-training your relationship with food such as eating less, making healthier food choices, exercising and consuming more water; and it all comes naturally from suggestions given to the subconscious mind.  While there is NO DIETING involved, the object is restrained eating, and for added benefit  dietary adjustments can achieve even better results. This procedure is a natural organic process whereby the unconscious mind naturally and effortlessly makes healthier choices.  You will learn to identify your body’s needs and wants while being satisfied on much smaller amounts of food, consequently releasing weight permanently.

Who is eligible to undertake this programme?

The Virtual Gastric Band procedure is available to anyone wanting to decrease their weight and improve their health.  If you are under the care of a doctor or specialist you will be encouraged to follow any medical advice you have been given while you use hypnosis to complement your health care plan.  It is always advisable that you seek medical advice for any ongoing health symptoms that may be causing you concern.

The Virtual Gastric Band hypnotherapy procedure provides all the positive benefits of weight loss surgery without all the risks.  It is non-surgical and therefore has no side effects, no medical risk, and no ongoing treatment is required. .  There are no hospital waiting lists, no expensive medical related costs and no specific weight requirements as opposed to the surgical procedure.  It is simply for people looking for a permanent change through significant weight release.

What are the therapy sessions like?

The first session is one and a half hours long, with the initial discussion aimed at finding out more about your situation; to explore your challenges and strengths, and why you want to lose weight. You will learn more about the programme, be given some new strategies, and set therapeutic goals.  In the latter part of the session you will be guided into a deeply relaxed and comfortable state, although you are still aware and in control. Then you will be taken through a very powerful visualisation process to help your unconscious mind to imagine a gastric band has been put around your stomach. Your thinking around food is reprogrammed to change your relationship with food, to eat less, to make healthier food choices, to exercise and to drink more water.

You will receive a support CD to listen to in between sessions to reinforce the new habits and help permanent change. The following three sessions at weekly intervals follow a similar format and last about an hour, and these give you further individualised support.

How does Virtual Gastric Banding work?

The Virtual Gastric Band is a non-surgical technique using the power of hypnosis to train your mind and body to accept less food. The clinical hypnotherapy works by the brain telling your stomach that it is full and there is no need for any more food. The most important thing about the Virtual Gastric Band in comparison to the actual gastric band is that the virtual version deals with the issues in a person’s mind and their relationship with food. Having a foreign body inside your stomach simply does not deal with psychological factors.

A surgical patient can still over eat and burst the band, plus they have to eat a pureed diet. With the virtual band, if they find they are eating too much, it can be tightened under hypnosis, there is no invasive surgery and they are treating the psychological problems not just the physical. The average weight loss experienced with Virtual Gastric Band therapy is 1-2kg in the first week and .5-1kg in subsequent weeks. This is achieved without dieting and without any feelings of loss or deprivation. The therapist does not wave a magic wand, instead by consciously following simple rules each person will achieve a natural, steady loss of weight.
